Abstract
Objective To explore the role of type II collagen in osteoarthritis by observing the expression of type II collagen mRNA in articular chondrocytes of patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and normal articular chondrocytes. Methods Eight cases of articular cartilage from primary osteoarthritis and secondary osteoarthritis of the hip joint were collected, and nine cases of normal articular cartilage were used as controls. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method was used to detect the articular cartilage. Expression of type II collagen mRNA in osteoarthritis chondrocytes and normal chondrocytes. Results The expression of type II collagen mRNA in primary osteoarthritis and secondary osteoarthritis groups was significantly lower than that in the normal group, and the differences were statistically significant (P=0.014); while in the primary osteoarthritis group, There was no statistically significant difference in the expression of type II collagen mRNA between the arthritis group and the secondary osteoarthritis group (P=0.716). Conclusion The reduction of type II collagen expression in chondrocytes directly leads to changes in the quality and quantity of type II collagen, which may be an important link in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and a common path for the two types of osteoarthritis.
