Abstract
Silane coupling agent KH550 was used as surfactant to modify the surface of silicon carbide powder. Scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, laser particle size analyzer and infrared spectrometer were used to study the morphology, surface properties and Particle size distribution and micromorphology of sintered body. The results show that the silane coupling agent and silicon carbide form a coating layer on its surface through a grafting reaction, but its phase and structure are not changed. After modification, the agglomeration of silicon carbide powder is reduced, so the average particle size is reduced; the electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance between particles are increased, which improves the suspension stability and dispersion of silicon carbide particles in the sol. Compared with unmodified SiC, the sintered body of SiC and ceramic modified with sol-gel in-situ molding SiC/ceramic composite has a uniform structure and higher flexural strength
